COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The trial in the 2021 killings of Justin and Amber Hicks in Cobb County turned Wednesday to accused killer Matthew Lanz's statements made two days later — when he was being arrested in Sandy Springs for a seemingly unrelated incident where he allegedly broke into a home and stabbed a responding officer.

The trial on Wednesday entered its third day before a Cobb County judge. Lanz has waived his right to a jury trial and is instead undergoing a bench trial at the Cobb County Courthouse in Marietta.

The court reviewed footage of Lanz speaking in the police cruiser after leaving his interrogation with Sandy Springs PD, speaking in rambling terms about the killings of his neighbors in Cobb County and asking about whether Amber Hicks was pregnant.
