When Jessica Amos and Philip Grizzard moved into their first home in April, they never imagined their new "safe bubble" would turn into their worst nightmare.
"It was our first house that we've been able to buy together," Mr Grizzard said.
"We had been squirrelling away money for a long time."
The 1950s Devonport one-storey home provided respite from the crowded and busy Melbourne streets from where the couple moved.
"We wanted a little place that was affordable," he said.
Ms Amos is on a carer pension, looking after Mr Grizzard who is on a disability pension due to vision impairment.
She called their home "our safe bubble".
