FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Indiana State Police are investigating recent “swatting” incidents targeting members of the Indiana General Assembly.
Swatting is when a person reports untrue information to law enforcement in an attempt to generate a large-scale police response.
ISP says it is not only dangerous for all parties involved, but also illegal.
“While the motives for this type of activity may vary, we are working diligently with local, county and federal law enforcement partners to identify those responsible for these reckless, careless and illegal activities,” the agency said in a news release.
ISP said it is seeking criminal prosecution against those involved in the recent swatting incidents. Those with information on the incidents are asked to contact ISP at iifc@iifc.in.gov .
