KINGSTON, Jamaica – A record-breaking 252 mile per hour wind gust was recorded during Hurricane Melissa in October. The National Science Foundation has now verified the force of that gust.
This gust surpasses the previous record of 246 miles per hour set by Typhoon Meiji in the Western Pacific in 2010.
Hurricane Melissa's intense winds have drawn significant attention from meteorologists and researchers worldwide.
