Charges have been filed against a man who was shot by a Chicago police officer after fleeing officers trying to talk to him Tuesday morning in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.
Anthony Nelson, 25, was charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer and possessing a firearm as a repeat felon, Chicago police said.
Authorities said officers were attempting to stop Nelson, believed to be armed with a handgun, about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 5600 block of South Michigan Avenue when he ran and officers gave chase.
One officer who gave “verbal commands” that were “disregarded,” shot the man, police said.
Nelson was grazed in the abdomen and arm and was taken into custody minutes later, police said.
Nelson was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
