When ninth-seeded St. Paul’s takes the field against eighth-seeded Evangel in Shreveport on Friday, Wolves’ running back Cody Corales will be just 38 yards away from tying the school's single-season rushing record.
Breaking the mark would be an impressive feat as the senior surpassed 3,000 career rushing yards in last week’s 56-7 Division I nonselect first-round dismantling of Pineville.
Corales is also currently tied for the single-season touchdown record with 20 TDs. That record was set by Nilo Silvan and Dartanian Sanders in 1990, and Silvan also set the yardage record that same year.
Two 35-year-old records could fall in one day.
That means Friday would be a historic day for the 6-foot, 190-pound athlete, but he is quick to point out that the team’s goal is more important.
