1Philadelphia, PA – A woman was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a speeding vehicle that fled the scene in West Philadelphia, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 4:17 a.m. on the 3300 block of Market Street in the city’s 18th District.
According to police, a silver Chrysler 300 with tinted windows was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when the driver ran a red light and hit a pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk.
Witnesses told investigators that the impact threw the victim several hundred feet down Market Street before the driver continued eastbound without stopping.
