UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Once Drew Allar laid motionless with under four minutes to go against Northwestern, it became the start of a whirlwind of a stretch.

He suffered a broken left ankle. He got a visit from coach James Franklin in the hospital. The next day, Franklin addressed the team moments before the news went national that he was fired. What followed for Allar was to go home to Medina, Ohio, to prepare for surgery.

“It was a very fast flip of the switch. Honestly, it still doesn't feel real to some extent,” Allar said on Zoom on Thursday morning. “It's kind of going with it day by day. But, yeah, it was a crazy 72 hours, in all honesty, between that Saturday to really Monday. It's just dealing with it and taking it a day at a time.”
