HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Hendersonville High School freshman is being hailed as a hero after using CPR she learned just weeks earlier to save her father’s life in the middle of the night.
Fourteen-year-old Delsy Hernandez woke up around 1 a.m. to her mother screaming. When she ran into her parents’ bedroom, she saw her father shaking and then he stopped breathing.
Hernandez realized she was the only one who knew what to do. Just a month earlier, she had completed CPR training in her wellness class at Hendersonville High School.
“I was shocked I was able to actually do it,” she said.
Hernandez performed chest compressions for several minutes while her family called 911. She says she stayed calm by focusing on the steps she learned in class. Her father began breathing again befor
