Legendary and loved bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield has died aged 63 - leaving behind a musical legacy born in Madchester that went on to span the globe.
Tributes to the guitar icon are pouring in from musicians, artists and fans after the sad news was announced by his brother on Thursday afternoon.
Crumpsall-born Mounfield joined the Stone Roses in the late 1980s, as the music scene here began to boom. Together with Ian Brown, John Squire and Alan 'Reni' Wren, the Roses were at the forefront of the iconic period.
The rock band's self-titled debut 'The Stone Roses', with Mounfield on bass guitar and lemons and paint on the front cover, is widely considered to be one of the most important and seminal albums of the era. View 3 Images
