KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knox County District Attorney Charme Allen announced on Thursday that a father has been convicted after his one-year-old child overdosed on fentanyl.
On Nov. 20, a jury convicted Christopher Douglas Ward, 23, of aggravated child neglect.
Allen says during a two-day trial, assistant district attorneys told the jury that on Feb. 29, 2024, Ward invited friends to his house to smoke marijuana.
During that time, the child’s mother was feeding the one-year-old when she noticed something blue in the baby’s mouth.
The district attorneys went on to say that the baby spit out a blue pill and when the mother asked Ward about it, Ward told her it was a Roxicodone pill. He then grabbed the pill and put it into his mouth. It was later determined to be a pressed fentanyl p
