To honour the freedom-seekers that came before, a U.S. man will set out on foot from Windsor to Dresden for Kwanzaa.

Ken Johnston, of Philadelphia, plans to make the 120 kilometre trek, Our Walk to Freedom, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 3, tracing the footsteps of those who escaped or evaded capture.

On his journey, he will make stops at historic communities where early Black settlers sought freedom, including Windsor, Sandwich First Baptist Church, Amherstburg Freedom Museum, Harrow, Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society and Black Mecca Museum, and Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History.
