A Middletown woman was arrested Nov. 18 and charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 2-year-old she allegedly left unattended in a vehicle for more than eight hours in September.

New York State Police said Zenaida Soriano-Rincon, 33, of Middletown, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, a felony, on Nov. 18.

State police said an investigation began Sept. 19, after an unresponsive 2-year-old was taken to a health care facility located on Benton Avenue in the City of Middletown.

The City of Middletown Police Department responded to the scene and subsequently transported the child to Garnet Health Medical Center.

The state police assumed the investigation at that point, and the child was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
