BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Many in Mississippi are still waiting to receive their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November.
The delayed payments follow the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
Officials with the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) told WLOX on Thursday that payments will come “as soon as possible.”
MDHS reports that clients with issuance dates between November 14 and 21 will receive up to 65% of their November SNAP benefit amount. The remaining November benefits will be issued separately and as soon as possible. The department’s decades-old computer must be reprogrammed to issue partial payments, and that process has delayed the payments, an MDHS spokesperson told WLOX.
