CLIVE, Iowa —

A Des Moines man is heading into the holidays with an extra quarter of a million dollars in his pocket after hitting the top prize in an Iowa Lottery scratch game.

Daniel Doyle scored big on a $20 "Holiday Gold" ticket, becoming the first player to claim one of the game’s four $250,000 jackpots.

Doyle bought his lucky ticket at the Price Chopper on Beaver Avenue in Des Moines and claimed his winnings Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive.

If you’re feeling lucky, there’s still time — three more top prizes of $250,000 are waiting to be won.
