YACHATS, Ore. — Wildlife officials said the humpback whale, which was euthanized after being stranded near San Marine on the Oregon coast over the weekend, has partially resurfaced.
The whale's carcass was buried after the necropsy on Tuesday, but a portion of the body popped back up on Thursday, according to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife via Oregon State Parks.
"We will monitor it over the next couple of days to see if we may need to re-bury the whale carcass. Otherwise, we will let nature take its course and allow the remains to decompose in place," the official told KGW in an email.
