LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Brian Yearwood has submitted a proposal to the board for closures and consolidations amid the district's $188 million budget shortfall.
JCPS has created a task force aimed at addressing the budget deficit, and it has explored options such as layoffs, tax increases, and more during meetings.
Now, Yearwood has submitted a proposal to the JCPS Board that includes closing and consolidating schools and facility upgrades.
"These are difficult but necessary steps," Yearwood said in a news release. "We made this decision after a thorough examination of the quality and capacity of our facilities and our educational models."
The school closures proposed include Zachary Taylor Elementary and Liberty High School.
