A local nonprofit is seeking sponsors for its food giveaway this weekend, after a spike in need.

Families Helping Families is giving free groceries — including Thanksgiving turkeys — to 1,700 families on Saturday at locations across the greater Houston area.

Most of the locations are already at capacity, but families may still be able to sign up to attend a giveaway at Missouri City's Sta-Mo Sports Park by calling 832-471-4172 or 832-471-4173 by 5 p.m. Friday. Quincy Collins founded the organization 12 years ago after members of his church banded together to help a family that lost their home in a fire.
