Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, the energetic bassist best known for his time in The Stone Roses and later Primal Scream has passed away at the age of 63. News of his death prompted an outpour of messages online as Liam Gallagher , Ian Brown and Shaun Ryder led tributes to the star.
As one of the original members of The Stone Roses, Mounfield contributed to their early singles, their 1989 debut album and the 1994 follow up album The Second Coming.
The Manchester born musician later became part of Primal Scream, the Glasgow rock band formed by Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie in 1982. Mani preformed with the band up until 2011, departing when The Stone Roses reunited, staying with them until the group's final split in 2017.
