Rangers legend Terry Butcher has revealed why he joined the club despite Manchester United coming in for him 'three times'.
Butcher moved north of the border in the summer of 1986.
The defender joined Graeme Souness' Rangers from Ipswich Town, although he could have gone to United instead.
Indeed, the Ibrox side secured the services of the Englishman because they came in with a cash bid, unlike the Old Trafford outfit.
"It was the Mexico World Cup that summer and I was told to go out there and do my best," said Butcher on The Warm-Up show on YouTube . "Chris Woods was there [at Rangers] and there was also a journalist who was helping Souness put the Rangers team together.
