NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WFSB) - Republican Erin Stewart officially kicked off her campaign for governor Thursday at New Britain Stadium, where supporters gathered to hear her plans to lead the state.

Stewart, who served as New Britain’s mayor for 12 years and was the city’s longest-serving mayor, said this is the right time for her gubernatorial bid.

Stewart has been eyeing the governor’s race for a while. She ran in 2018 but withdrew to run for lieutenant governor instead.

“I am Erin Stewart, and I am running for governor because the clowns in Hartford have run our state into the ground,” Stewart said in a campaign ad posted Tuesday on Instagram.
