NEW ORLEANS — Crews with the Sewerage & Water Board returned to the Filmore neighborhood Thursday as a major water main leak continued to send water flowing onto nearby streets and properties.
Residents near Cartier and Filmore avenues said they’ve dealt with flooding in their yards for nearly three months, with little relief in sight.
“I feel like I’m living in the swamp with all this water,” resident Patricia Simpson said.
According to the Sewerage & Water Board, the ongoing flooding stems from a break in a 50-inch water main. Officials say repairs require careful planning to avoid widespread pressure loss in New Orleans East and the Lower Ninth Ward.
Simpson said her property has taken the brunt of the leak, even as homes across the street remain unaffected.
