MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - City leaders in Martinsville are considering major changes to their decades-old City Hall building after a new assessment showed repair costs could exceed the structure’s value.

City Hall, built in 1968, houses a wide range of services including city administrative offices, the courts, police, and the jail. Officials say the building has long been showing its age, with structural and functional issues becoming harder to ignore.

Interim City Manager Robert Fincher said the city has a strong connection to the building, but the mounting problems have become difficult to manage.

“We love this building, but it’s become kind of a love-hate relationship,” Fincher said.
