Sixty-eight Michigan public schools have been removed from a watchlist that mandates state oversight, according to a recent Michigan School Index report.
The watchlist tracks student outcomes, highlighting areas where improvement is needed, such as proficiency in statewide testing and graduation rates.
The Michigan School Index helps identify which schools need extra support , annually listing schools in one of three accountability categories, particularly for the lowest-performing 5% statewide or within specific student groups.
Results for the 2024-25 school year were released by the Michigan Department of Education on Thursday, Nov. 20.
Interim State Superintendent Sue Carnell said she was “pleased” to see the improvement for 68 schools, including 33 that were among the 98 schools
