COLUMBUS, Ohio — Lawmakers in the Ohio House and Senate have passed sweeping property tax reform , sending a package of four bills to the desk of Gov. Mike DeWine.

Legislators said the bills could save taxpayers about $2 billion over the next three years.

The legislation prevents unvoted property tax spikes by establishing a new Inflation Cap Credit that prevents increases in school district property taxes from exceeding the rate of inflation.

“The biggest impact to our taxpayers is essentially the understanding that moving forward, property tax bills will not spike again like they did over the last five years. That's the number one impact. Your bill will not go up above inflation unless you approve new levies to do so,” said Rep. David Thomas, R-District 65.
