ROCKFORD, Ill (WREX) — Changes to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding criteria have local organizations concerned about the future of homeless services in the area. The new criteria could significantly reduce funding for permanent housing, which has been the focus of local efforts to support the homeless community.

Sarah Parker Scanlon, Executive Director of Shelter Care , explained that the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) released by the current administration has introduced more cuts than anticipated. She said the changes are expected to drastically and negatively impact homeless services not only locally but across the country.
