ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) — In just over a week, Stroll on State will officially take over downtown Rockford. In the meantime, the biggest decoration of all is kicking off the holiday season.
Downtown Rockford's Christmas tree was harvested and put up Thursday morning, now sitting in the heart of the event's footprint.
The 35-foot-tall tree will be decorated by a team of volunteers this weekend, preparing for the big tree lighting during Stroll on State.
"This is our 13th year of doing the Christmas tree harvest and resetting," John Richards, the president of Tree Care Enterprises said. "It's a 35-foot Blue Spruce tree. We hook up the crane to the top of the tree, we cut it, lift it, load it on the big trailer, and drive downtown to the BMO parking lot."
