KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - Police say now is the time for residents to fight porch pirates in their neighborhoods as package thieves become more active during the holidays.

Just about every city in the metro has a community camera program that lets police know if a camera is near a crime scene.

The program works like a neighborhood watch but with technology. Residents can register their cameras with local police departments to help solve crimes in their neighborhoods.

Detective Cameron Morgan with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department said registering security cameras can help catch criminals faster.

“Going into the busy holiday season, you never know what’s going to happen out there,” Morgan said. “It just helps everyone in your neighborhood, not just yourself.”
