CLEVELAND — A slate of property tax reform bills — estimated to give Ohioans more than $400 million a year in property tax relief — is now headed to Gov. Mike DeWine’s desk.

Wednesday, the Ohio Senate voted on four property tax reform measures previously passed by the House. House Bills 129, 186, 309 and 335 target different aspects of the state’s property tax system, including Ohio’s 20-mill floor and inside millage collections.

Before the votes, Democratic Sen. Kent Smith of Euclid argued the legislation was rushed and that it is too soon to know the overall impact.

“Between 129 and 186, the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing and the taxpayers are going to end up holding the bag for all of our sloppy, hasty decisions,” Smith said.
