LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

A Louisville Metro Police officer shot in the line of duty two years ago is talking for the first time about the harrowing situation.

Officer Brandon Haley remembers the barrage of bullets fired towards him on Sept. 7, 2023.

“There was a bad situation with a bad individual, and that's what it was,” he said.

The rookie officer's investigation of a suspicious car that night turned tragic in Louisville’s Chickasaw neighborhood after shots rang out from a nearby house.

Haley was struck in the chest.

Body camera video captured the horror, but also the heroism, as Haley’s fellow officer Colin Billotto dragged him to safety.

“He hates that word hero,” Haley said. “I tell him all the time, I wouldn't be here without you, and he honestly tells me to stop talking.”
