The Affordable Housing Committee is preparing a recommendation for the Select Board with the hopes of establishing an affordable housing property tax exemption of up to 100% for property owners who rent to year-round, full-time residents of Falmouth.
The committee hopes it could be a way to incentivize landlords to seek out year-round tenants over renting their properties seasonally. The tax exemption could go up to 100%, but that will be decided by the town.
Committee members Kelly E. McKeon, David A. Sutkowy and Elizabeth M. Klein have formed a subcommittee to focus their attention on how Falmouth can incorporate the tax exemptions and how surrounding towns have chosen to apply them. The affordable housing property tax exemption is included in state legislation and passed in 2023.
