EUGENE, Ore. - A teenager's life took a dramatic turn when a car accident over the weekend left her fighting for recovery in the intensive care unit. Teagan Merritt, 16, was asleep in the back seat of a car that was rear-ended by a truck, sending the vehicle more than 200 feet into a creek.

Teagan's parents provided an update on her condition, describing her as stable but still facing significant challenges.

"Teagan is stable. She's fighting really hard to make improvements. There's not a lot of improvements to report at this time. And she is slowly waking up and making a couple of statements," said Gina Merritt, Teagan's mom. They added that Teagan was initially confused about her own age, confusion which doctors expected following her traumatic brain injury.
