HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A $6.8 million dredging project at Maunalua Bay is moving ahead of schedule.
The project began in July with an original completion date of April 2026.

Developers met with community stakeholders Thursday morning to provide a mid-point update on the work.
Crews are conducting maintenance dredging, seawall repairs, and beach nourishment at the Maunalua Bay boat ramp in Hawaii Kai.
The work includes erosion control and creating a small beach for children on the east end of the bay.
Rescue operations depend on the channel
Project leaders said it is essential to clear the channel for boaters because first responders often launch from Maunalua Bay for water rescues.
