A 22-year-old man now faces up to 85 years in prison after jurors Thursday found him guilty of fatally shooting a man after an event to remember someone who died.
Jalan X. Carpenter of Fort Wayne was found guilty of murder and a sentencing enhancement for using a gun to commit the crime. He was charged about a year ago – about 3 1/2 years after 19-year-old John A. Peterson died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Jurors deliberated for about two hours before delivering the verdicts, according to the Allen County prosecutor's office.
Peterson was found shot while sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle in the 4600 block of Willard Drive. He was reportedly shot March 26, 2021, near the intersection of Reed and Vance roads, but a witness in the passenger seat told police he used his hand on the
