An iconic Louisville company is replacing the first restaurant location it opened in its hometown.

Texas Roadhouse plans to close its location at 3322 Outer Loop and build a new, 9,900-square-foot location across the street at 3201 Brooke Elizabeth Way.

The Outer Loop location opened in July 1996 and was the company’s first Louisville location.

It served as a prototype for future Texas Roadhouse locations, marked by distinctive elements such as the two exterior peaks topped by flags.

Founder Kent Taylor, despite the name of his company, opened the first Texas Roadhouse restaurant in 1993 in Clarksville, Indiana, at the Green Tree Mall . It has since grown to more than 600 locations across 49 states.
