The Edmonton Oilers turned in their gutsiest efforts of the season to date Thursday night in Tampa Bay, although they had to settle for a single point.
The Oilers significantly out-shot and even more so out-chanced the Bolts in the first. Calvin Pickard did his share plus some to keep it there through 40 and most of the third until Paul tied it at 1-1 late as the gas tank dropped close to the “E”. The winner in OT came on a Tampa Bay 2-on-1 after Jack Roslovic failed to drain a sitter at the other end.
But a herculean effort on the second of back-to-backs for Edmonton to earn the single point. Their backup goalie was a big reason they did, but a much improved group defensive effort also contributed and the PK was a perfect three for three.
