DALLAS, Texas (KBTX) - The Leon Cougars are the 2025 2A Division I state champions. Leon swept Nocona 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-14) on Thursday night at the Curtis Culwell Center.
“This has just been a very surreal moment for me,” Leon head volleyball coach, Elizabeth Dyson said. “As a player, I was never able to win a gold medal, so these girls, for them to be able to make one of my childhood dreams come true. It’s really special.”
Leon picks up its 11th state title in program history, its first since 2015.
The Cougars did not drop a single set this postseason.
Why did Leon win? The Cougars were able to dominate Nocona through all three sets of this match. Leon picking up a team-high 13 aces, six coming from Averi Futrell.
