The South West’s top cop says police won’t “spoil the fun” of next week’s Leavers celebrations, but have warned officers would have a “zero tolerance” approach to bad behaviour.
Superintendent Paul van Noort also encouraged young people making the trip down south to take care on the roads ahead of official events, which begin on Monday.
“There will be several police in the area and support agencies as well — we’re not there to spoil the fun, we’re there to make sure that the event is safe and that leavers can celebrate safely and we’re approachable,” he said.
“We’re urging every driver to to be smart about their choices... no drink driving, no drugs, concentrate on your driving.
“The licence is a privilege, so treat it with respect.
