For years, Katlyn Sparks-Haught fought to become a mother. She had been through multiple rounds of IVF, experienced seven miscarriages, and was eventually diagnosed with natural killer cells, an immune condition that made carrying a pregnancy extremely difficult.

After her doctor told her he would no longer attempt another embryo transfer, Sparks-Haught decided to pursue surrogacy. She posted on Facebook, hoping someone might be willing to help. Advertisement

Taylor High School alum Kaitlyn Frey saw Sparks-Haught’s post just one week after telling her husband she wanted to look into surrogacy. The two were just acquaintances in high school, but Frey immediately felt called to reach out.
