KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - Former Kinston City Council candidate Quarla Blackwell, filed a new election protest this week, after her protest was dismissed on Monday by the Lenoir County Board of Elections.
On Thursday, the board held a consideration meeting for Blackwell’s protest where she stated “failure in the voter database,” after she says she was still able to register to vote despite an active probation status.
Blackwell’s protest reads:
“I protest the recent Kinston election due to the Board of Elections’ blatant failure to uphold the law. North Carolina law is crystal clear: felons may not register or vote until their entire sentence-including probation-is completed. Yet in November 2024, while on active probation, I was issued a voter registration card by your office and told that
