West Shore School District’s board voted unanimously Thursday night to replace its legal counsel, closing the book on both an outstanding lawsuit and the board’s last two years of political turmoil.

Board members voted to hire Saxton & Stump as the district’s primary solicitor, along with Sweet, Stevens, Katz & Williams for special education matters. The firms will take over from Tucker Arensberg attorney Kevin Hall, who had been hired by the board’s conservative former majority.

Hall’s hiring — and the simultaneous firing of Stock & Leader attorney Brooke Say — generated significant pushback from residents as well as a lawsuit over the alleged lack of transparency involved in the swap.
