SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- A man refused to identify himself after he was detained for shoplifting at Walmart Nov. 15.
After he was positively identified, the Cleveland man, 32, was found to have two outstanding warrants.
One was confirmed by the Cuyahoga County Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. They said they would pick him up the following day.
He was arrested for the $331 theft and for obstructing official business.
He had told officers to just call him Joe Smith and take him to jail.
While being taken to jail, he was able to break off a door handle in the cruiser.
He used it to cause damage to the door and to try to pry off his handcuffs.
He told officers that he would be keeping the door handle, but instead was issued a citation for criminal mischief.
