SALT LAKE CITY— Utah’s home crowd came ready to see Alex Jensen’s squad build on early-season progress. Instead, they got a 40-minute lesson in what happens when a defense refuses to wake up.
The Utes were outmuscled, outshot, and out-executed by Cal Poly in an 92–85 loss that exposed glaring issues guarding bigger guards and maintaining defensive discipline.
The Mustangs were able to shoot 50% from the field, and a blistering 14-of-25 from 3-point range, largely a product of Utah’s defensive lapses. Cal Poly’s Cayden Ward finished the game with 28 points, while Hamad Mousa finished with 25.
Utah was never able to put together runs until midway through the second half. The Utes had it 76-74 at one point, but were unable to get over the hump.
Utah’s promising start that evaporated
