Two days after being released from a psychiatric hospital in August, a 15-year-old boy walked into the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and told the receptionist he had killed his family. He was admitted to the hospital after threatening his relatives' lives.
A police officer soon arrived and saw an AR-15 rifle and a handgun on the front seat of a 2011 Ford Escape in the parking lot. He approached the teen and asked what was going on.
“I killed my parents. The guns are in that car,” he reportedly said. “I’m fighting demons.”
About 20 miles away, Owen County Sheriff’s Office detectives had been called to the scene of a double homicide on Truesdel Road near the town of Quincy. The teen's father and great-uncle had been shot and killed.
