In the midst of a humanitarian crisis playing out in the streets of Montreal, one health clinic that treats some of the city’s most marginalized unhoused patients might soon be forced to close due to the Quebec government’s controversial Bill 2.
The five doctors who own and operate Clinique l’Agora on Berri St. fear the new provincial law changing the way doctors are paid will leave them without enough funds to pay their staff, cover the rent and buy medical supplies.
Since taking part in webinars explaining the new compensation system, which comes into effect Jan. 1, and sitting down with the clinic’s accountants to look at their books, Dr. Emmanuelle Huchet, l’Agora’s medical director, said the numbers just don’t add up.
