The riots that started in Delhi on February 23, 2020, stopped on February 25.
Delhi Police told the Supreme Court on Friday that the 2020 Delhi riots did not erupt suddenly, but were meticulously planned in advance. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, appearing for the police, claimed that terror funding was used for the riots and the protest was deliberately given a violent turn.
According to ASG Raju, Tahir Hussain, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Meeran Haider, Ishrat Jahan, and Khalid Saifi raised large sums of money for the riots. Several meetings were held before the riots. Plans were made in these meetings to escalate violence, block roads, and disrupt essential services. Police also claimed that a conspiracy to separate the northeastern states from India was hatched in these meetings.
