It's never just a workout or a practice or one of dozens of games for Vick Barrett -- they're meaningful moments in his children's lives, and they're moments he doesn't want to miss any longer.
That's why, whenever Poyen's season comes to an end this fall, Barrett is calling it a career after 14 seasons as its coach.
"For two seasons now, I've known it was coming," Barrett told the Democrat-Gazette. "But it's really set in these last three or four weeks that I'm not going to be doing this next year, and it's emotional. I'm 100% at peace with it."
On top of the usual emotions that come from a playoff win, Poyen's 40-37 victory over Gurdon in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs came with a little extra for the Barretts afterward.
