JONESBORO -- On the final play of the game, a host of defenders stuffed Arkansas State quarterback Jaylen Raynor just short of the goal line to give Louisiana-Lafayette a 34-30 victory Thursday evening at Centennial Bank Stadium.

ASU Coach Butch Jones called an option play with three seconds left on the clock and the ball spotted on the 2. After Raynor cut toward the end zone rather than pitching to the running back, a swarm of defenders that included Fitzgerald West Jr. and Terrence Williams held up Raynor inches away from the winning score.

Louisiana-Lafayette (5-6, 4-3 Sun Belt Conference) kept its hopes alive to become bowl-eligible and will face Louisiana-Monroe on Nov. 29 at home. ASU (5-6, 4-3) will also need a win Nov. 29 at Appalachian State to reach postseason play.
