Lost in all the speculation about Macklin Celebrini, Connor Bédard, Tom Wilson and Nick Suzuki is the rather remarkable season John Tavares is having with the Maple Leafs.
He’s not an easy or obvious choice of any kind for Team Canada – not with the explosion of Canadian talent growing throughout the National Hockey League – but he wouldn’t be a wrong choice or an inappropriate choice for the Olympic team, which will name 14 forwards to be announced in late December or early January.
This is the challenge for general manager Doug Armstrong and his management staff. Naming a team, not necessarily the 25 best players.
