LACLEDE COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) - Laclede County is making changes to weather data collection to help the county be better prepared for severe weather.
Randy S. Rowe, the director of the Laclede-Region I Office of Emergency Management, says after talking with the National Weather Service, he learned the majority of tornadoes and strong storms were coming on the west side of the county.
To gather more detailed data from this impact area, the OEM set up a high-tech weather station at Conway High School.
By collecting information on barometric pressure, rainfall, wind direction, and humidity, and sending it to the National Weather Service office in Springfield, NWS and the Laclede County OEM can obtain more detailed data on what is happening in the area and thus create more accurate models.
